Plaud Credits Explained: What Uses Credits and What Stays Included

Plaud Credits pay for Agent work, while transcription uses a separate allowance. We explain what stays included, what happens at zero, and which costs Plaud has yet to make clear.

AI-generated editorial still life of a Plaud recorder beside a paper transcript ribbon and a separate tray of brass credit tokens, with a small Choosely Chimp cameo. A metaphor for separate transcription and Agent allowances, not a product interface.

Plaud Credits pay for Agent work, such as producing a document or running an automated task. Transcription minutes remain a separate allowance. Plaud's October 14 announcement describes two upcoming Ask Plaud modes: free Chat for questions and Credit-powered Work for tasks. Its billing FAQ still lists Ask Plaud as Credit-powered without that distinction. Ordinary transcription and default summaries continue under your plan if Credits run out.

An Unlimited subscription therefore does not buy unlimited Agent work. The distinction is between turning a recording into notes and asking Plaud to do more with them.

This guide reconciles Plaud's billing FAQ, launch announcements, and Team guidance where they disagree. It covers the documented October rollout. We have not performed account-level billing or hardware tests.

What uses Plaud Credits?

The table reflects the new billing documentation and announced mode split. Plaud ties the rollout to the latest mobile app update, so availability can differ by account.

The action matters. Built-in Re-summarize refreshes the normal output. Asking Agent to turn the same meeting into a client brief uses the separate meter.

Announced Chat and Work modes: check before sending

Plaud has announced two modes for Ask Plaud. Chat answers questions from recordings and the knowledge base; Work carries out tasks and produces files. A mode stays fixed within a conversation. Plaud says Chat is the initial default, then Ask Plaud remembers the last-used mode. Requests Chat cannot handle are directed to Work.

Check the mode before sending. Under the announced model, reopening in Work after yesterday's task could spend Credits on a question intended for free Chat. That is a practical risk inferred from Plaud's mode rules, rather than observed billing behavior.

The Team guide adds to the uncertainty by including questions among Credit-powered activities. We have not verified how Team accounts currently bill the announced modes.

What happens when Credits run out?

Credit-powered Agent features pause until more Credits are available. Plaud says your normal transcription and automatic summaries continue under the existing plan. An exhausted Credits balance is therefore different from an exhausted transcription allowance.

Top-ups require purchase confirmation; reaching zero never triggers automatic payment. The Team guide gives the same assurance for a Member who runs out.

For someone who mainly wants a searchable record of meetings, that boundary is useful: Agent spending can remain a separate decision. A team relying on scheduled Work tasks has a different dependency. A Routine that stops at zero can interrupt the process built around it, even while the meeting notes keep arriving.

What does Unlimited actually cover?

Plaud's pricing page describes Unlimited transcription with a ceiling of 24 hours per day.

PlanTranscription allowanceWhat to remember about access
Starter300 minutes per monthIncluded with a Plaud device
Pro1,200 minutes per monthPaid individual plan built around a bound Plaud device
UnlimitedUp to 24 hours per dayTranscription allowance, not unlimited Agent work
TeamUp to 24 hours per dayPaid, minimum two seats; software-only use supported

Plaud says the individual experience, including membership benefits, starts from a device bound to the account. Its pricing page also marks Plaud Desktop as requiring a device. Paid Team workspaces support Desktop capture and imported audio without recorders.

How much do Credit top-ups cost?

We could not verify a complete current pack menu containing both prices and Credit quantities.

Plaud's announcement describes mobile-app top-ups as available. The billing FAQ still defers pack details to launch and says web checkout is unavailable for now. Team administrators are directed to their billing dashboard.

There is no fixed per-action price. Plaud says task length and complexity affect usage; a reference guide is promised after real usage data becomes available.

That leaves two missing inputs for a useful calculation:

Task cost = Credits consumed × price paid per Credit.

A displayed balance percentage does not supply either number.

Before purchasing a pack, check its quantity, currency, expiry, and any checkout taxes. Then measure one repeatable task you actually need. A short follow-up and a multi-document deliverable are poor substitutes for each other when estimating a monthly budget.

This is the weakest part of the current offer. Users can understand which activities are metered without being able to forecast what those activities will cost.

Free grants are temporary

Plaud describes the October preview as running through December 31. Standard launch grants last three months from receipt and do not replenish monthly. The preview's end date is not automatically every user's Credit-expiry date.

Plan-specific grants appear in the account. Purchased packs expire after one year; Plaud One Explorer preorder Credits expire 12 months after activation.

During the preview campaign, an upgrade gives the higher-plan grant once. Downgrading adds nothing; cancellation or downgrade preserves issued Credits until expiry.

Treat the grant as a chance to assess useful work. Budget for that work as if the grant were not there.

Team balances need a separate explanation

Team grants belong to individual seats; purchased top-ups are shared after personal balances run out. All seats share an expiry date set by the first member's update.

That matters when an administrator rolls out the update gradually. A new member should not assume they receive a fresh three-month window.

The Team announcement also warns that the update is one-way and mixed versions can affect shared links. It lists Slack, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Outlook, Notion, Linear, and Zapier as launch connectors. Plaud describes additional Microsoft 365 integrations as coming soon and Salesforce as on the roadmap. Skill-sharing availability remains disputed between the Canadian and Team pages, as shown above.

AutoFlow users should check their rules before updating

Plaud's Canadian Skills/Routines guidance says AutoFlow evolves into Routines and existing automations do not transfer automatically. They need to be recreated. Routine and Skill execution uses Credits; ordinary summary templates remain separate. As of October 15, Plaud's US pricing page still lists AutoFlow among plan features.

That creates a more important question than whether your monthly subscription price changes: will a familiar automated process now depend on a consumable balance?

Write down what each current rule does before moving over. Start with one recurring task, verify its output, and watch its usage before restoring an entire set of automations.

Plaud lists PDF, PPTX, DOCX, HTML, and Markdown as Artifact formats. It says Agent asks for confirmation before posting or sending to connected tools. We have not tested their accuracy or reliability.

Questions existing subscribers are asking

Does this replace transcription minutes?

No. The billing FAQ preserves the subscription and transcription allowance.

Does every account already have the new system?

Universal availability remains unconfirmed. Plaud describes an October rollout tied to the mobile app update. Check the version and features available in your own account.

Choosely's verdict

Plaud has documented a useful boundary between ordinary note-taking and Agent work, but has not made the ongoing Agent bill equally easy to evaluate.

If your main requirement is recording, transcripts, and default summaries, choose the transcription plan that fits those needs. If you want automated briefs, deliverables, or connected actions, evaluate Credits as a separate budget. Check one repeatable workflow before committing to a larger routine.

Unlimited is meaningful within its transcription allowance. It is insufficient information for budgeting the rest of Plaud.
